In honor of this amazing man, the self proclaimed hedonism evangelist, and the knowledge that we have gained from his content; we at The Grill Coach thought it was a good time to update our own blog post from 2022 with some current information. So you can learn more about great barbecue and grilling for outdoor cooking for the low and slow cooks or hot and fast cooks.

Who has the most trafficked barbecue and grilling website in the world? TheGrillCoach.com! Well…. No. It is Amazingribs.com. Amazing Ribs has been around since 2005 and it has educated more cooks than ever. So many people in bbq, whether print or video, were influenced by AmazingRibs.com. It is a website that is all about the science outdoor cooking. It is the only bbq website that has a full time physicist to perform experiments about bbq. It also has a full time expert that provides “unbiased” and in-depth product reviews. Anytime, I want good information on bbq brands to learn teach share, this is the place that I go.

Since the original writing of this blog post over 4 years ago, the content on this website increased more than anyone can imagine. It is still one of the most trafficked barbecue and grilling websites in the world with over 2000 pages, 700+ tested recipes, 600+ gear reviews and 300+ science based techniques.

They provide you with detailed steps during prep, how long things take and even provide a difficulty level for recipes. My favorite part about this website is the opportunity to learn what is really going on with cooking. They go to great lengths to describe what happens when we put meat on the grill. Their team includes an electrical engineer who tests thermometers and a physicist with a PhD from Harvard who is the chief myth buster. And if 2000+ free pages aren't enough, they offer exclusive access for paid members via the Pitmaster Club for less than $3/month to watch videos without ads.

How about an update on the founder, Meathead?

The founder of Amazing Ribs is Meathead Goldwyn, a former journalist and real wine professional. This guy was on the US Wine Tasting Team, amazing right?. The story that I have heard him say many times is that he started the website based on “ego”. Well I mean, he was having a “friendly” competition with a neighbor about who can cook the best ribs. Meathead, didn't see much on the internet and so he decided to start his own barbecue and grilling solution based on science. I don't remember if who won the rib competition, but oh well. Meathead is winning now! I don't see that his neighbor started the most trafficked bbq website or was one of the 9 finalists this year in 2020 to be inducted into the BBQ Hall of Fame. I will go out on a limb to say that he will get in the BBQ Hall of Fame!

UPDATE! In September of 2021, Meathead was a Barbecue Hall of Fame inductee along with Ollie Gates and Rodney Scott. The induction ceremony was at the 41st American Royal World Series of Barbecue in Kansas City. Meathead is now one of only 40 living Barbecue Hall of Famers. We are so lucky to have this man a friend of The Grill Coach, listen to Episode 87 or Episode 178 to hear him on our show. You got to listen in, he is not only a barbecue whisperer, he is a BBQ Hall of Famer! And yes, he talks about his cookbooks in his Meathead method amazing ribs style.

How has the Amazing Ribs team grown?

Meathead has a natural curiosity to see how things work when cooking and his staff full of bbq stars does, too. They dive deep on great barbecue, side dishes and the pursuit of things like the best brisket or ribs. This has led to plenty of articles on experiments with AmazingRibs' own, Dr. Blonder, where they determine what is happening with our BBQ and grilling meats. It’s very interesting like the article he wrote about the science of salt. He has many articles similar to this that are very educational.

Product information has become a huge part of this website. Information is published by Max Good, another part of the AmazingRibs team. They do a great job reviewing smokers and they have a searchable database with over 500 cookers. Check it out here. There are extensive filters so you can find grills and smokers in different price ranges and different styles of cookers. Meathead frequently talks about all the grills and smokers he uses and it seems amazing to be able to cook on all different kinds of devices.

I keep mentioning hearing Meathead, like I talk on the phone with him regularly right? Well, unfortunately I have not had much interaction with Meathead. I listen to him when he is a regular guest on the BBQ Central Show with Greg Rempe monthly. Greg and Meathead have seemed to become good friends over the years and they have great chemistry when he is on. I have been listening to him on the BBQ Central show since 2014 and each month between now and then, I have learned a lot from him. He has also indirectly encouraged me to try out many different things like cooking homemade pastrami.

UPDATE! I still love pastrami as I learned from Meathead, especially the shorted version where you can start out with a store bought corned beef. Meathead's team has grown immensely since the last time we wrote about them and he really put in some work here. He has BBQ Stars, Recipe developers, product testers, and members from the Pitmaster Club. Meathead's charisma is perfect for building something like AmazingRibs.com and he has recruited an incredible lineup of people to work with. I especially like that he gets people that are experts at what they do and will share that information for the benefit of all readers. Let's highlight a couple members on the team.
